Google announced last week that it would purchase the St. John’s Terminal building by the waterfront, near Houston Street, for $2.1 Billion dollars, making it one of the most expensive office building purchases in the country’s history.
The move solidifies Google’s bet on NYC and city real estate. Now Google, Amazon, Apple and Facebook are all entrenching themselves in the City. If you read the tea leaves, it means tech is betting on New York. Even though Google is postponing its back to the office requirement due to the Delta Variant, when the space it currently leases is finished renovating in 2023, Google will own 3.1 million square feet of NYC office space. How’s that for social distancing?
