Biden has assembled a Super Hero Squad of Magical Black folk. First he tapped his work wife and first AKA in the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris. Then he tapped Mobile, Alabama’s number one soldier for Sec of Defense, Lloyd James Austin III. But perhaps his most impactful appointment may be Ohio’s own former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge. Not only does Sec. Fudge have the audacity to rock her natural hair, but she said she wanted to create 3 Million new Black Homeowners by 2030… out loud.
Sec Fudge also said her HUD administration will focus on housing discrimination and the need to address the racial gap. What? You mean the department will do the job it was created for? According to Fudge, “the Department of Housing and Urban Development will work to eradicate the growing homelessness issue, put an end to discriminatory practices in the housing market, and ensure that our fair housing rules are doing what they are supposed to do: opening the door for families who have been systematically locked out for generations to buy homes and have a fair shot at achieving the American dream.”
“Banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions denied credit to African-Americans through redlining,” said Fudge. “Those days are done in this HUD.” Who is this woman and how do I Cash App her?
Not only is she pushing mortgage counseling, but also a “substantial, sustainable and targeted” down payment assistance program and increasing housing production through land use reforms and economic intervention in distressed communities. That’s a $25k down payment assistance program. (More on that later.) I would invite her to the BBQ, but she is going to be super busy. She has a vision, support from her boss and allies in the field to make it happen.
If you a renter now, stay tuned. Fudge may help you to become a homeowner soon. You may even be able to keep your home long term and pass it to your children to build generational wealth! #Winning #ILikeFudge #AskHollingsworth
