Summer is officially gone and the Fall is here. It’s time to prep the home for the Fall and Winter seasons. Whether you are selling or not, Vicki Payne, host of the For Your Home with Vicki Payne television show, published some tips to prepare your home’s exterior for the months ahead.
Add these items to your Fall to do list:
- Evaluate your roof. Repair missing or loose shingles, deterioration of asphalt shingles along with mold, algae or splitting of wood shingles.
- Clean your gutters. Remove leaves and junk to prevent ice damming. Also check downspouts.
- Check your siding and trim. Check for rotted boards, insects and cracks or splits.
- Inspect the deck. Broken boards or attachments can let water into the house.
- Check the garage door. Make sure it's sealing out drafts.
- Seal the windows. Checks for drafts, cracked glass and bad seals. Stop the wind from running up your energy bills.
- Consider privacy window replacements. Consider decorative glass or acrylic block privacy windows to let in light but maintain your privacy in the bathrooms.
- Check out your doors. Check weather stripping along the entire opening to keep out drafts.
- Secure or replace loose railings. Check all balusters, handrails and the front and back rail systems.
- Landscape. Rake dead leaves and underbrush around the house. Re-mulch landscaping areas. Trim back trees and bushes away from the house.
Payne’s tips will keep your house looking beautiful and keep the property values up for a possible future sale. If you would like help finding a beautiful Westchester home… AskHollingsworth.
