Great news is on the horizon! The National Association of Realtors (NAR) recently reported that the Black homeownership rate saw the highest annual gain among all racial groups in 2023, reaching 44.7%. While this is a step in the right direction, it still trails behind the White homeownership rate of 72.4%.
Closer to home in Westchester County, affordability remains a challenge, especially for Black and Hispanic residents. Between 2017 and 2021, the home value-to-income ratio was 5.3 for Black homeowners and 5.7 for Hispanic homeowners, indicating significant affordability hurdles.
