If you’ve ever wished Congress would stop ghosting your DMs about housing prices—guess what? Last week the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) handed me a golden ticket to Capitol Hill, and I used it. Armed with Macha tea, a MetroCard, and enough policy talking points to wallpaper the White House, our realtor gang met with Rep. George Latimer and Rep. Mike Lawler to champion the issues that keep Westchester agents (and our clients) awake at night.
Why We Hit the Hill 🚀
More Homes on the Market Act (H.R. 1340) – chops the “equity‑penalty” so long‑time owners feel good about selling.
Housing Supply Framework Act (H.R. 2840/S. 1299) – a national game plan to build MORE homes, not more excuses.
Revitalizing Downtowns & Main Streets Act (H.R. 2410) – turns half‑empty office buildings into hip live‑work spaces (hello, walkable lunch breaks!).
Uplifting First‑Time Homebuyers Act (H.R. 3526) – lets buyers raid IRAs without the tax hangover.
Fair & Equal Housing Act – adds LGBTQ+ protections so everyone gets a fair shot at homeownership.
Association Health Plans Act (H.R. 2528/S. 1847) – because agents need affordable health coverage that isn’t “WebMD, what is this?”
Main Street Tax Certainty Act (H.R. 703/S. 213) – preserves the 20% pass‑through deduction, a.k.a. “Stop‑Making‑April‑So‑Scary.”
How the Meetings Went 🎤
The new guy Rep. Latimer took furious notes and barked "get on that" to his people. I think that is a good sign. Rep. Lawler already signed on to some of the legislation and said he would happily continue his support. Bottom line: both offices get that more housing supply + fair tax policy = stronger communities (and fewer clients tearing up at closings). Democrats and Republicans doing the peoples work?! Quick take a photo. (I did... on the not so low)
What This Means for You 🏡
More listings. Fairer rules. Health insurance that won’t eat your commission. And yes—better pathways for first‑time buyers who currently think “down payment” is an urban legend.
